ND Cortex: Canvassing Opinion

Bought the above two years ago from the ND shop.

After the first dive the Neoprene neck collar tore which in fairness to ND they replaced FOC and paid carriage.

Leaking after one year of diving (approx 100 UK dives) Pressure test by LDS finds seam in crotch is to blame; repaired for £45.

All seals replaced after 18 months (I expected this with the heavy use the suit gets).

After two years leaking again. Pressure test finds:

New zip required.
Pair of new boots required.
Seams in three locations leaking.
Punctured in two locations and requires patching. Est. cost for repair £175 to £200.

The suit has been looked after, it's frequently rinsed, hung up to dry and only rolled up the day before a dive trip.

Have other YD users suffered this with an ND suit or would you expect greater longevity? Or was I just dumb to buy the ND in the first place. They sold the suit to me on the basis of it's durability, they knew I used it to teach in and assured me it would last.....

I'm currently using a borrowed Otter which has seen serious action and hardships with none of the aforementioned problems.

Looks like I'll be off to Bradford before long with the Mastercard.

so would I .... and my ND neoprene suit has lasted over six years, with some heavy use at times. My ND membrane lasted 4 years before I had to sell it in December (there was no way i was ever going to fit in it again due to girth reformatting on my part) and my long term buddy has had her ND membrane for five years. All have had TLC after use and regular servicing.

May be you just got the runt of the litter?

Hold on a minuite, I heard something once about goods being sold HAVE to be fit for the purpose...................

Honestly, I do not know where you stand with this, I know nothing about it, but I bet someone on these boards will.

Then again, after 2 years would this still stand?

For defects in manufacture you have 6 years as part of your statutory rights. This 12 month thing is a load of cobblers.
However this does not cover fair wear and tear.
If you do a Google for "statutory rights" you'll find out all sorts of things.

I Spoke to Trading Standards...they say your right but the problem will come after two years how do I prove that I have not abused the suit. If the person selling suggests improper use what have I got to refute it. It would be an uphill struggle to convince them otherwise. My best bet appears to be to contact ND, let them know the details and see if their customer service is as good as their sales pitch.
