Question Which Dry Suit

Ok, I'm look to buy a Dry Suit. Just done my dry suit course this past weekend. Moneys a little tight so something cheap is ideal. I've been scouring the 2nd hand ads but given my size it's a little difficult (6ft 3, size 11 feet). I'd like it to be membrane, latex seals, auto dump (shoulder) and pockets. Any suggestions?

Get thee self to LIDS.

Visit Otter and Northern Diver. I would personally reccomend taunton Subaqua. I got a Flexia from them for (I think) £350 last year.

Normally I wouldn't give any specific advice on which make to get but simply set "Get one which fits you well" but in your case I'll make an exception. I'm about the same size as you by the sounds of things (6' 5" and size 12 feet) and so I'd recommend the Oceanic Aedura in a Large Long size. Its a lovely, robust suit and fits beautifully.

Used a Oceanic Aedura at the weekend, boots were a little bit on the small size but otherwise it fitted well. Not sure about the price though, I've only seen them for more the 600. I guess I could wait a little longer or try my luck at LIDS. Any other suggestions

Like Conor said, get yourself to LIDS and talk to Otter about a made to measure Otter Skin. That should meet your requirements and could come in a bit cheaper than the Oceanic if £600 is the best price you can get. If you do go for one, get them to put the pocket(s) on the sides of your thighs rather than the front (their standard placement) and think about velcro rather than zip closures. And get internal braces. And ask for Si-tech dump valve instead of Apeks low profile.

Have a look at the other exhibitors as well of course. As Nick said fit is the most important thing.

(PS I'm 6'3" with size 11 feet too - prepared to sell you my suit for an extortionate price )

The taunton stand had Aeduras for the same price as the Flexias so about £350.

But, if you are worried about sizing than otter are your best bet.

Remember at LIDs you'll have the time to try these all things at your leisure.

I must say its horses for courses. Last time I decided to buy a new suit, everyone told me Otter was a great suit.

I bought one at the dive show 4 years ago. Otter Britannic, front loader, Pockets on the side, dir style etc. all very nice, but I still miss the total flexibility and comfort of my old DUI CF200SE. I think if I was buying again, I'd go with the DUI or perhaps an O'three for the stretchiness despite the additional cost.

Andy

hey how about this... I am the same size as you (feet slightly bigger though) You could buy my Otter suit, and I could get a new one... Just a suggestion. PM me if interested, I'll be at the dive show both days.

Thumbs up

Otter - You can have a suit made to measure in a variety of materials that will not break the bank.
