MTM Otter Drysuit & Seals

Do new neck/cuff seals stretch with time.

I've just picked up my new Otter Brittanic and the neck and cuffs feel a little tight. As it was MTM are they usually cut to the right size or should I trim them a little further?

Gavin

Well, it is cheap stuff and it comes almost from the local gardening store, but it works fine and it's very solid. We tried to destroy one by hitting it with a hammer... we succeeded but we really had to hit it hard - http://www.stde.ch/en/faq.php

So no green suit then and very smart it looked to

Yes they do stretch abit I had new wrists seals in October and they are just getting to feel comfy, I had a new neck seal last month and I am not going to trim mine until I have done a few more dives.

I did put a couple of small bottle in the wrists though just to stretch them abit first.

Yeah, Otter put serious seals on their suits!!! They do stretch over time, sticking something in them does it but it's also a function of time too as part of the natural aging process of rubber. One thing to watch for is they go super-stiff in cold weather if you store your suit in a garage, I guess because they use quite thick rubber.

The neck seal especially will stretch a little over time with use.

If it helps, My Britannic has now don 100 ish dives, the Hd wrist seals have not stretched. I trimmed 1 ring off the neck when new [to aid breathing] it was a little tight for a while but its now sung as a bug so to speak

Cheers.

Paul.
