3mm? That's brave. Never dived Canaries with anything less than a 5mm.

Quite honestly the suit isnt thick enough and adding a vest wont cut it.
Either you need to get a thicker suit or add another layer on your torso.

I know you said you didnt want to put a shortie on top, but it is the
cheapest solution. Keeps your core warm whilst allowing loads of movement
in arms and legs.

If you dont want that, then its new suit time.

Whilst I'd agree about using a 5mm suit I have to say that vests can vary.

If you look at the ralphtech site they are neoprene and will cover your core in up to 3mm of additional neoprene, which would result in 6mm in the torso and 3mm in the extremites.

Having said that I would be thinking of a 5mm semidry for 20 ish degrees

Hmmmm might be ok for your torso, but doesnt do a lot for bum and your
other extremeties!!!!!!!!!!!!
