Face seal problem

I have finally got my first suit (7mm Cressi lontra3 with 5mm shorty). The only problem is, the face seal on the hood extends down so it sits over the top of the mask skirt. This tends to compromise the seal, not help it, as it may seem. Also, at the bottom it digs in to my lower lip when my reg is in.

The hood has a very wide face seal, so can anyone tell me if it’s o.k. to trim the face seal in these areas with a knife.

Trim with a knife or a good pair of scissors/shears. Do it bit by bit to make sure you dont remove too much. I deliberately keep my hood seals coming down over the mask. The first time i trimmed i had a bit of exposed skin between mask and hood and that was VERY cold.

Take just enough off for the mask to seal, no more.

Because of the curve its hard to cut it without making it ragged. I now put the hood on a polystyrene head and use a scalpel IF I need to trim.

As the hood wears it should beceom more flexible may press the seal less... maybe have a play with it before cutting, not least because theyre such lovely suits!

This is a really good tip. The one occassion I have been forced to do this I did it the same way I do a neck seal. Stretch it around a cylinder and then run a new craft knife all the way around in one smooth go. No nicks, no ragged edges.
