I like the parraffin was as it's slippier, but it does have to be applied more frequently.

Woz, I'm sure you don soak the thng, but do you find that you are carfill about not getting it onto the suit, or does it just wash off after time?

The Beaver stuff appears to be flakes of wax in a parraafin base. What I do is pop it into my pocket 1/2 an hour before using. Then it's all completely liquid (you can also microwave it or drop the bottle into a mug of hot water- remove the lid first). Then paint it on the big teeth and the inside little teeth. Takes about 5 mins to do the whole zip and is not at all messy, unlike bloody wax.

It will easily last a couple of weeks continual diving- I did mine before last year's week long easter trip and it was silky smooth all week.

Lazarus - the point that the fly turns from being dead to being sprightly with a dab of Woz's magic liquid.

Icarus is the one who flew into the sun IIRC?

Yep, that's right. I was comparing the fly zapper to the sun

Ah yes but he didn't actually make it.... the story tells of him getting too close, so the wax melts and all the feathers fall off - Total balony!

We all know that as you increase altitude the temperature drops, so the wax couldn't have melted. Regrettably, wax gets more brittle as temperature drops (hence the earlier post about heating the zip). Back to the tale, what actually happened was the wax became soo brittle it broke and all his feathers dropped off.

Cheers, Paul

Depends how high you go. Once you get into the mesosphere it starts going up again. But you would have to flap bloody hard to get that high.

But his strategy was clearly to get as high as possible before commencing a glide to get across the sea - now this strikes me as the strategy of a lazy* person. Given my hypothesis, I feel it distinctly unlikely that he would make the mesosphere!

History records that 'steady away' Daedelus (SP), made it by slogging through the much denser air at approx. sea-level.

Cheers, Paul

Ta Woz. I always wondered what beaver lube was. Missus has obviously been at the candles again.

Actually, I've just realised I'm talking cobblers. The temperature cools as with height in the troposphere, then goes up again in the stratosphere (hence it's legendary stability), then cools with height in the mesosphere.

Clearly Icarus must have reached the Stratosphere, found it an easier place to fly, and then instead of being content bimbling along, ascended still further, until his wings melted.

Clearly the moral of the story is not to fly with wax wings.

Janos

It's a good Beaver product.

In fact if you want some, I'm doing a Beaver order today so let me know and I'll get a bottle in for you.
Woz, am I too late to order a bottle? If not, could you please?

Many thanks.
