Sci Tech Dump Valve - Divers Warehouse

Hi Guys - just a quick note to say that although they still have them on the web site, Divers Warehouse don't stock Sci Tech auto dump valves any more.

I ordered one last week, and instead of Sci Tech they sent me an Apeks. When i called to query today, I was told that they don't stock them anymore and I had been sent an Apeks as a substitute.

I could send it back for a refund, but it's actually a different design to my current Apeks so I'll give it a go this weekend and see if Apeks have made it less crap

He said there was a problem with the last batch they had been sent and they (DiversWarehouse) have now stopped supplying them. There didn't seem to be any possibility of them getting future stock

That's kind of what I was told when I was trying to get one off them some time back.

After pushing them on what the issue was, they told me that they had problems with the Sitec drysuit inflators, not the dump valves.

I guess they decided at that time to just go with Apeks, especially as the newer Apeks low profiles are apparently improved.

I would agree that the Sitec inflator valves are a bit more temporamental than Apeks inflators, having had mine play up twice but the dump vlaves are superb.

Incidently there is now a UK importer for the valves, can't remember who but if you do a search on here for Sitec and posts by me you should be able to find it.

High or low profile?

I've not had a problem with my Apeks low profile autodump in 2 years, was it this model there was a problem with?

I've not been a fan of Sitech valves since I saw their auto inflation mode engaged at Stoney, luckily on the surface.

Can't say to be honest, some of the older low profiles seemed to be very slow to dump, some people never seemed to have a problem with them. I dived with one for years and it was OKish but I definitely noticed the Sitec seemed more responsive when I switched some years back.

If your happy with it I wouldn't worry to much, I do think the Apeks inflation valves are better than the Sitec inflation valve. Which reminds me I must swap mine from my old suit.

I had the same trouble getting a si tech valve a while back (same sort of time as Daz I seem to recall!).

Abyss UK (Abyss UK buy diving equipment) might be able to sort you out - I got one from them a few months back.
