Replacing wrist seals?

Got a bit of a soggy feeling last week - the wrist seal on my drysuit need replacing........damn. Off to Scapa in a couple of weeks, so I presume I have time to make a hash of replacing them and still have enough time left over to send it off for a proper repair.......

So, it all seems straightforward - found some replacements on Seaskins website, thought I would just trim off the original seals back to the start of the drysuit fabric (bit like the papering over sound wallpaper theory) and then go from there.

Are there any drawbacks I need to know about or any hints or tips please? Can't be that difficult its only sticky glue & scissors we are talking about here and I am over the age of 12 (only just). It is a membrane suit & I will be putting on latex seals....oh yes - is there any major difference between the bottle seals and the cone seals - currently have cone seals but thought I would try bottle seals.......

If you are worried about it, I'll change them for you when we get up there on the saturday. They'll be good to go by the sunday morning. Just get yourself some manchette seals (my preference) or whatever seals you prefer, get some 2 part beaver or other brand glue from an LDS, and I'll bring a seam roller and neoprene tape, etc.

IF I were you, I'd remove all of the old seal.

Then clean the sleeve with glue thinners, key the contact areas with fine sand paper, and clean again.

Get a bottle (two litre fizzy drink bottles are a good size) and put it in the sleeve to give you a base to work on. Tidy up the job by taping over the joins with suit tape. Use the edge of a pound coin to clear of excess glue.

It might not look pretty at your first attempt, but it'll be dry if you're careful.

The type of seals are down to personal preference - I prefer conical "manchettes" to the bottle shaped seals.
