| seaskin compressed neo or trilam...your thoughts hi pepes well its that time again im going up to see richard at seaskin to get measured for a new suit next week....i have dived with an otter skin for the last 10 years and been very happy with it......but i may fancy a change so i have been considering there compressed neoprene dry suit..i have never dived in a neoprene dry suit...so what difference could i expect ? im happy with how my otter has let me dive over the last 10 years...so will i find a lot of difference between there trilam suit and there compressed neoprene.... many thanks mark

| I have a SeaSkin Nova on order, hopefully only three weeks away now, after doing a measure yourself job. (bit far South for a visit). I'm moving away from a Neo to the membrane as I was getting fed up with the bulk of the O'Three suit. |

| I’ve been diving in my Seaskin tri for the last 3 years with no complaints at all, a couple of the guys I dive with have just gone for the Seaskin compressed neo and very nice they are….. good fit and plenty of flexibility, I think when my suit eventually gets tired I’ll be going for the neo as well. |

| I don't have a Seaskin but I know pelnty of people who do. My buddy Eeyore dives a membrane Seaskin and is perfectly happy with it, as are Ian@1904 and Mark Davies. Prometheus has one of the neo Seaskin's and he allowed me to stroke it's loveliness...and oooooh, how lovely it was too. Very flexible. I prefer a neo as I like not to have all that air sloshing arond in my suit. I also find that even on sunnny days it can get chilly on a boat in the surface interval and my own neo suit keeps me warmer than my old membrane used to. If I needed another suit, I'd be visiting Richard for one of his loverlee neo creations.

I think you are making a very good choice going for the Seaskin. I've said it here many times before - grab one now before Richard realises he's undercharging for his suits to the tune of a good £200! The question is just that perpetual debate between neo or trilam. I choose trilam because of its flexibility (not material - but use). You can choose what thermal protection you want with far more scope than with a neo. Yes you may have more air within your suit but you learn to manage that - so I think it's worth it.

| Of course, the tri-lam has a front loading zip, and the neo has a rear zip, which may weight in your consideration. ColinM

| As a possible fly in the ointment - I sent my seaskin back earlier this month. I have had three leaks now in less than a year. Sent it back finally as I had had enough - heard nothing at all from Richard since - no refund and no further communication. So then - almost £600 for 30 dives, 6 of which were dry. Seaskin aren't perfect, but then - no manufacturer is. Got a Waterproof Draco now which is really the dogs dangly bits. Very happy. I'm not saying Seaskin don't do the goods, just that they are not always perfect and the customer service isn't necessarily as good as everyone makes out. But then - your mileage obviously does vary! |
