Well, I am finally going to taste the splendour of Sharm in June and need to buy a wetsuit.

So what do you think? 5mm or 3mm, steamer or shorty etc etc.

Cheapy or big brand?

help me make a decision please.

i was there last july, dived in a 5mm full suit on the thistlegorm for protection, and a 3mm shorty most of the time, occasionally diving in just speedos, for example on jackson reef to 40m, was 30 degrees water temp

depends how easy you get cold, and if you plan a few wreck dives

Hi

A 3mm 'steamer' will do you for all, in June it can get mighty hot, particually when stood on the back of the boat waiting to get in. Most times at that time of year I have used a shorty, but, if you do the Thistlegorm you will get a bit cold. If this is your first wet suit, then go for the 3mm full one piece as it will cover most of what you do in warm water.

Ta for the thoughts.

I will go for a 3mm and maybe some of those Thermocline thingies from Fourth Elementas as a skinny alternative.

I always use full length suits (are these what people call steamers?) at least as much for protection from sunburn and stingers as for warmth.
Also, if you're in the water long enough you will get cold unless the water temp is literally 30 degrees. On a multiday trip like a liveaboard I also take a hood along. Call me a wimp but I like to keep warm!

I used a 3mm Oceanic full length suit in April last year with a 3mm shortie over the top for the deeper/colder syuff and was fine. I'm pretty tolerant to cold though but in June I would only take the oceanic.

Cheers and have a great time,

Noel

<font color='#000080'>Dundee,

My fiancee and Bought wet suits from this seller.

link to ebay selling wet suits

She puts them up on ebay for you to bid, but don't waste your hard earned cash on bidding for one, just email her and ask for one/how ever many you need. Don't bother paying the 'buy now' price. Haggle. Just email her and order at the price she starts the bidding at. We bought three last year for our holiday to the Menorca. two full length and one shortie, to wear over the top if it was cold. These are 4mm wet suits. Don't be put off by the colours either. They do the job and other divers will be looking at the dive site and not you.

I can vouche for this seller, again, don't bother bidding, just email her (Jackie I think) and ask for them at her offered price, of 29.99 - shortie, and 39.99 full length.

Thanks for the suggestions,

I like the idea of a steamer with the addition of a shorty for extra warmth when required.

I checked out the web sales on ebay and it looks like a good deal.

The other cheapy manufacturer I came across is LOMO, a Glasgow based outfit hat trades under:

www.ewetsuits.co.uk

They seem to have some good deals.

Cheers

Chris
