| Too tight to buy Xerotherm Arctics? Just tried these in Stoney under a membrane with a wicking base layer (and nothing else). Kept me warm enough and a snip compared to the 4th Elephant stuff: Xcelcius Thermal Underwear - Megatherm

What does the wicking base layer comprise?

| The Helly Hansen Lifa thermals make an excellent base layer as well. Chris |

The new Fourth Element Subzero undersuit system for membrane drysuits. These are just pure sex and they're one of the few undersuits on the market that you can wear in Tesco without looking like a complete numpty! My order is already in... ![]()

I also think your wicking layer helped Woz, as I didn't think they did that job too well either. So, maybe with a descent wicking layer, they are as good as Artics.

It's just getting enough for me to think about a base layer under my Artics, I just use the merino wool stuff I have for skiing, only need the top, legs are ok. I do tend to dive with little air in the dry suit though.

I really struggle with the finding the best combinations of undersuit stuff here. It doesn't get that cold (only about 10C) in winter, so my new Typhoon suit is great but Summer (18C) is a bit of a tricky one - I find getting dressed up in drysuit etc at 30+C above water (fairly common) very unpleasant but the water isn't really all that warm once you've been in a while. I wouldn't mind something not quite as toasty as the Typhoon but not to cool.

I wouldn't use them. But merino woll works and here is a merino wool company on your side of the globe that makes base layers. Be careful about the sizes though, the size chart looks a bit weird to me. Hmm, they appear to be having problems with their pictures ATM. Or you could use Helly Hensen Lifa base layer.
