leeking Apex cuff dump?

Hi guys I have another problem with the club kit!

One of our club suits has a problem with the Apex cuff dump when the poor girl who was using it jumped in the water the other day water flooded in through it, although I have not had a look at it yet to see if there is anything blindingly obvious I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and could you suggest a remedy?

Aidan

Take it off.

If that doesn't immediately reveal that it was loose or crooked cut a hole in a plastic bag and fit it to that.

Turning the bag inside out and back and filling it with water will rapidly prove if it is fixable or stuffed.

hi ya, new dump time, less than a tenner. The rubber is probably perrished on the inside or a big bogey of grit if not!

When I bought my suit 8 years ago it had a shoulder dump, but I changed it to a cuff dump and I've never had any problem with it. When I did think I had a leak in it last year it turned out to be a small area of the suit seam near the cuff dump, it had split slit its stitching.

There's nothing wrong with cuff dumps as far as I'm concerned.

Hmmm thinking slight tare in the cuff may be the problem to be honest as I have had a closer look at it and I cannot see anything wrong with the cuff dump itself, its clean and tidy inside so wondering if it is the surrounding seal which is broken really need to get some victim to come diving with me in that suit and see where the bubbles come from or in there case the water!

I got rid of my shoulder dump (hate the things) and replaced with a cuff dump :0

As for leak, first thing to check is unscrew it and make sure no sand or dirt clogging the diaphragm. Thats probably the most common cause of a leak - even 1 grain can give quite a wet arm on a dive.

Failing that make sure the top is actually screwed on tight.

Failing those make sure no rip/tear in the suit fabric where the valve is fitted.

One test if you've got access to a pool is block the actual valve by replacing the diaphragm with a plastic bag or cling film and submerge it, if there are bubbles from around the dump there's your problem. If not its either dirt or a torn diaphragm.

Well there appeared no problem with the diaphragm although there was a tiny amount of dirt under it which I suppose could have contributed to the leak, like your idea about blocking the cuff dump with a plastic bag and seeing what happens unfortunately have not really had a chance to chuck it into a pool but I may chuck one of my victims into wast water this weekend and see how they do! Also when I had a look at it the other day the tape around the dump seamed to be coming away which may have contributed to the leak so may glue it down and see how it is this weekend!

This would be the better idea, you get them to inflate the suit whilst under water and see if you can note any bubbles coming from the seam.
Alternatively place a ball of a suitable size in the neck and wrist seals, inflate the suit and smear a solution of washing up liquid around the dump and seam. If you see bubbles - you gotta leak!!
