Opinion - Which one to buy?

HI there,

as winter time approches .....a 3mm suit is out of the question to dive in 'warm' Malta. I need something thicker. Thus my options are the following:

Aqulung Balance Confort 7mm Semi Dry
Aqualung Sharm 6.5mm

Bare 7mm

any opinions about these wet suits?

That is the basis of the whole law profession. You can buy opinions. They're very expensive. The same goes for management consultants, and a number of other professions.

But back to the original question. I'm not sure, but depending on your current suit, you might just consider doubling up - e.g., shorty over a full length. The important thing is that you don't get water flushing through.

When i was in Malta last November i would have killed to use my drysuit. Was frozen even in a 7mm semi (water 19c).

Maybe an option - cheap membrane DS for winter?

having dived in cyprus throughout the winter, i'm inclined to agree. if you've not come across one before, drysuits aren't that scary. i did my first few dry dives without any training whatsoever. not that i'm recommending that of course

Just finished my first season diving in the uk. Started back in may temp was about 14. Had a 5mm semi dry with 5mm shortie gloves hood. It was cold no doubt, but not uncomfortable. As the season progressed temp on south coast went up. Stopped using the shortie, plenty warm. 18-19 degrees.

Its the between dives and travelling back in the rib that chills. On a nice sunny day no probs. Otherwise fleese or coat and warm hat. So I reckon either of those suits will be fine. Or go for a 5+5mm combo, it gives you more flexibility. Mine is a oceanic shadow, waterproof do a nice combo too. There were some good deals at the dive show. £150 ish i think.

Some feel the cold more than others so thats something to consider.

Malta was 19-20c, i had a 5mm semi dry + 3mm vest and was so cold i was aborting dives due to uncontrolled shaking after about 45 mins.

Today was 11c and with weezle undersuit, thermal base layer, thermal vest, fleece top and 3 pairs of socks and was frozen in drysuit.

Others were happy in that in their wetsuit.

So choice of suit i guess depends on how much you feel the cold.

Agreed, I had a 5mm on in August and felt the cold once you got under the thermoclime.

Also if your going to Malta?

You MUST see the worst Freddie Mercury impersonator in the world. The best comedy show ever! Can't sing the words but has all the right moves. He's at O'Relleys pub in Buggiba on a friday or saturday
