In my last suit, the centre of the hole for the valve was just over 2 1/2 inches from the crotch. It wasn't a hydrotech (I assume DUI) suit, but as I don't know them, I can't tell if it makes a difference. I had it there because it was easy to reach the screw (old style p-valve).

Thanks guys - some useful advice there - and a couple of daft questions.......... Green to Tom , a diagram will be sent to Grant (no photos available) and a further green to GLOC 'cos following his link led to the latest developments there - So long Nappy Valley

Question Whats wrong with nappies .......?
Okay help me out here ........please So what is wrong with the 'nappies' or 'incontinent underwear'?

I was going to go down the P valve route but due to a bit of negative feedback (leaks etc etc) and the cost and comfort issue I have started diving with the diapers currently available .....NOT something my wife likes me to talk about in company.........BUT

Lots of plus's as comfortable, easy to use, cheap , disposable ?

Any comments on P valves versus Diapers / Nappies?
