Heated undergarments idea

Following on from another thread on heated underwear (for diving). I came across a site in the US that sells a range of heated products. They do not mention using them for diving, but they are designed for wet outdoor use naturally.

The heated lite vest lasts between 4-10 hours on one charge! (Heats upper chest and lower back). It looks to me like @ 0 degrees it will heat up to 46 degrees (32/115 fahrenheit for the old school)

The vest price is good @ $99 including the battery and charger! I didn't buy yet so, don't know how much it will cost to send to the UK, but they do ship worldwide. You can also buy extra batteries. And there is a lifetime warranty on the heating element.

You can also add a heated jacket, trousers, gloves and socks And you can hand wash the stuff.

I'm not so sure about the Lithium ion battery... I think they get nasty if they get wet.

What does the Typhoon use? I thought it was a Li-In batt pack?

Not sure about the belt. The waistcoat has an external battery though.

I do like the look of the Q-vest from Golem. But it's £400.

That is what I understood as well.

It can obviously stand a certain degree of wetness, so if the battery gets so wet it breaks down, then your suit has flooded big time. Well, if your suit is full of water, then that very water will surely draw the heat off the now broken battery? We know that water has a tendency to draw away heat rather quickly don't we.

EDIT: Yep, according to BJ, the Typhoon one is Li-on too. He also mentions the heating thing, but my thoughts still stand on the flooded drysuit drawing the heat way.

No, if you really want to be sure, then stick it in a condom and tape the opening to the wire, or use an elastic band tightly round it, that should stop the majority of the water ingress.
