New Zealand, wet or dry?

I'm off to New Zealand next week and have sorted out some diving around the Poor Knights Islands. Does anyone know if I would be better off taking my drysuit or a semi-dry?

Cheers

Think UK summer and no gulf stream, in fact if in the south, no land between NZ and South Pole!

Dry.....

Your going to be ok in a semi. I cant find my old log book so I cant give you accurate temps but I dived out there in Nov a few years ago and everyone was in semis, you will be hitting the middle of their summer and on north island that is nice and warm with the water currents coming up from the north of aus. Its not labeled tropical/sub tropical diving for nothing. If you are thinking of travelling down to south island that is a whole different kettle of fish and you will probably need a drysuit.

There are a few NZ members so they should be on line later and able to give you accurate temps.

Wet suit is fine - last Feb was 21c at the Poor Knights. Probably a bit colder now but even so unless you are doing long deco you wont need a dry suit.

Visited NZ a coulpe of years ago with my wife and we took lightweight drysuits. Very glad we did because it allowed us nice long 60min + dives without getting cold.

If you take your own regs then they need to be A-clamp - NZ seems not to have heard of DIN.

I did the Poor Knights in December a couple of years ago. Perfectly fine diving wet. However if you are intending to do any diving down in Fjordland then take your Drysuit.

A 7mm suit would be fine as you'll be diving in summer there.

I Dived the Mikhail Lermentov 2 weeks ago and was glad I used my membrane drysuit. Although it's summer there now, the water is not particularly warm around South Island.

DIN wasn't a problem.
