Rodent attack

In preparation for my first dive since June tomorrow, I started to kit faff today, having just got back from RoHo with full tins

I moved house in October, and all my kit went into a wardrobe which lives in the garage specifically to protect all my kit.

It all got stored away when I moved in, and it hasn't been touched since.

So today I go to get out my drysuit, which is fine, but notice a small pile of what looks like soil in the bottom of the wardrobe.

Except when I pick it up, it is neoprene, and I move the leg of my pride and joy Pinnacle polar semi-dry to find a massive hole just next to the ankle zip where it's double thickness, and the little sh!ts have munched the whole (hole) way through. Little bastards!

Is it likely I'll be able to repair it (the hole is about 2 inches and cone shaped, smaller as it goes inside) or should / can I claim on my house insurance?

Suffice to say I've just been to b&q to get a few mousetraps and some bait.

Nigel Hewitt should be able to answer this one, as i think he had a similar problem.

I find an airgun to ones caught with 'humane' traps very satisfying

diving is still very much on thankfully they avoided my drysuit. My freediving suits are ok too, so worst case I'd wear one of those.

Hi mate,

Sorry to hear of your rodent problem, on our insurance it has to be a big claim to make it worth losing our NCD

We had to get rid of the traps when we got our dog, but B&Q do an indoor sonic repellent as well, and that seems to work fine and alot cleaner than having to clear the traps.

Safe diving,
Steve

currently have a few such univited guests. The sonic repellent seems to actually be their meeting point

Currently in negotionations with SWMBO to allow escellation from 'fluffy wuffy dont hurt its feeling humane' traps to a sodding large shotgun!

I did hear one suggestion and that was to put traps in a brown paper bags, encourages rodent in. Also means that once it has done its business all you need to pick up in the brown paper bag.

Tenacious Yorkshire mice, a bit like the rabbits in the Monty Python and the Holy Grail film

Safe diving,
Steve
