It's not just a function of temperature though.

30 mins in 5 degrees is simple for me. 2 hours in 15 degrees and I'm glad I brought the drygloves. I seem to lose a lot of heat from my hands and the dexterity is the first thing to do. Not nice if you have a couple of gas switches to do on the way up.

So my argument is put one set of kit on and use it all year round, so I'm not having to learn and unlearn how to kit up or do things. This extends to the gloves, hence the reason I use drygloves all year round.

Vobster Quay are doing quite a good deal at the moment - a Typhoon Prosport drysuit, 100gm undersuit and a PADI Drysuit Specialty course all in for £500!

After my experience of Northern Diver 4mm neoprene suits I sugest you do not get one of these. Several members of my branch have Norther Diver membrane suits I do not think there has been any problems with them.
As you are prepared to spend quite a lot of money do as others have sugested and invest the time and visit the maufacture to get measured. My vote would be for an Otter suit as a lot of peaple I know use them this view may change tomorrow when I dive in my new suit.

Thanks, and an update.

Thanks for all your advice and help. I have now decided not to go for a MTM suit at seaskin partly due to not being able to get to the factory due to other commitments which I can not get around; and partly because I went to have a look at some Otter drysuits as was suggested by some of you as being the best for membrane and decided I liked very much the feel and fit of the Superskin Telescopic with the Arctic commercial undersuit 200. The price I have been quoted the LDS I visited is £805 for the both (including some beeswax) and all the usual Otter extras.

For the gloves I have decided to go for the 5mm gloves as feel that way I still have much of my dexterity intact but hopefully my hands will not get too cold.

Now to picking some fins, any advice?

Thanks,
Matt.

Good luck with your new suit dived in mine today it was fine exept I need 4kg more wieght than the old one but have changed my undersuit. As far as fins go try to borrow a few different types and find a pair that suit your finning style.failing that buy a cheap pair go diving and look to see what other peaple are wearing who are doing the same type of diving as you.
