Red Sea Hoods

Red Sea hoods... no not some sort of mafiosos.. but some advice please.

Mrs SB and I are off to the RS in Apr (Hurricane, STB itinery) and she wants a hood... but she hates anything constricting so it must be really comfy and stretchy, and probably with a smoothskin seal on the face.. i reckon 3mm will be OK.

Any ideas for super stretchy, comfy hoods so I can start the selection process?

Rich

Pop down to your LDS and try some on. I use a 3mm all year round myself as i hate wearing them and a 5mm is just too constrictive for me. Personally i have never really felt the need for one in the Red Sea though i do pop it in the bag just in case! Plenty around that incorporate some sort of heat retention finish. Tends to be silver and smooth though the sealing surfaces will be smooth rubber.

The Scubapro superstretch is brilliant. Very easy to get on and off and your hair doesn't come out in clumps.

will you need one in the red sea at this time of year. I'm off in two weeks diving out of sharm with the red sea college and had hoped to get away with a 7mm semi dry - am i being optimistic?

Waterproof make a 5mm/3mm combo hood which I use in the Red Sea and I think it's ideal. It's a good shape and has a vent to prevent the Tefal head look.

You can poke a couple of holes in a normal hood to stop the cone head effect. Cheaper than Waterproof!

Scubapro Everflex £26.50 [plus you need to poke your own holes)
Waterproof £23.99 [holes included]

Mrs Sb feels the cold after a few days on a liveaboard so hood definitely required.....

That said if I were going to the RS NOW I would be packing a drysuit.... but then that's me!!

Vonneeeee,

a favour (presuming you actually have one of these...) - could you dig it out sometime and measure the circumference in cm at the widest part of the head and let me know (and what size - S/M/L it is too) - I can then have a vague attempt at ordering the right size.

PS - you will of course be forgiven for ignoring me on Sunday
