| Heat Seal Melco Tape One of my drysuit pockets has fallen apart in spectacular fashion (looks like a hand grenade went off in it). So I have replaced it with a typically solid looking Deep Sea Supply offering: https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?product=122 The pocket is supplied with strips of Heat Seal Melco Tape which goes over the joins between the edges of the pocket and the suit ("for a professional finish" apparently). I have looked this stuff up on the web and the general idea seems to be to heat it with a heat gun. Now HTF are you meant to do that without melting your suit??? Does anyone out there in YD land have any experience with this stuff? How do you use it without doing loads of serious damage to thing you are trying repair?

| Exposure Suit Thigh Pocket . Heat Seal Melco tape is furnished with the Ballistic backed pockets to finish the installation for a clean profession look. Available with either a 3mm Neoprene Back, or a Ballistic Nylon back. The Ballistic Nylon has the coated side towards the suit. This coated side better accepts adhesive and will not require the many coats of glue often required on uncoated nylon weaves. The neoprene pockets are intended to be attached to neoprene exposure suits. These pockets can be glued to the suit, or glued and sewn to the suit in the same manner as a knee pad. The use of modest amounts of adhesive and sewing allow the pocket to be recovered from a failing wetsuit and moved to a new suit. Can you test a bit of tape to see how much heat is needed,

| An iron (on the synthetics setting) works better than a heat gun. The melco tape is designed to be applied using a hot air and roller machine, but to do it by hand with a heat gun you really need 3 arms. On a pocket I wouldn't bother with the tape. It serves no useful purpose beyond covering up glueing bodges and looks a bit cheesy cheers dave drysuitrepair.co.uk |
