O Three Drysuit 5 or 2mm

Hi all

Read with interest the recent thread posted by Taza regarding which O Three drysuit to go for, which from a lot of the replies gave a clear vote for the 2.1mm RI with quite few comments from folk moving from the 5mm to the 2.1 RI..

I've also decided to go fo an O3 suit (mainly because I've never heard a bad word said about them) soon and had really decided on the 5mm suit for the extra warmth gained when I'm doing longer dives on my Inspo. I've been diving 8mm ND suits for a long time, so the bouyance change issues/comments are probably something I would n't even notice.

However between the 2 suits whats makes the Ri seemingly the better of the 2 suits..

Br & safe diving

Grahjam

What makes the 2.1mm better: Lighter, more flexible, less buoyancy change.

Extra warmth can be gained from undersuit choice.

However the 5mm is a great suit, I really liked mine - I just prefer my 2.1mm

I have an RI, nice and flexible etc. It can get a bit cold though with an arctic xerotherm just doing standard PADI dives no deco. Wife has the 5 mm and is quite toasty with the o three base layer. If renewing I would probably go for the 5mm.

I'm having the same debate at the moment.

I got measred up along with SWMBO at LiDS in the 5mm suit but after reading some of the threads I'm getting more confused. Starting to move towards the 2.1 suit but not sure if its worth the extra £140 for the MTF.

Thumbs up

Well I can add my voice to the Othree chorus.

Mine is currently in the middle of its third winter! And whilst I have had to give a dab or two of aquaseal in the last couple of weeks, it is still going strong having never had replacement zip or seals. (bear in mind I am in a dry suit for around 5 months of the year, diving almost everyday).

I have the Ri2/100 and can honestly say I'm glad I went for it. I'm not sure the MSF500 is that much warmer on long or deep dives and as The Duck pointed out....base layers can sort that out....a good set of PBB or Artics will keep you pretty warm.

Strangely my 2mm RI is warmer than my old 3mm RI. I thinks it is because the 2mm is made to measure and the 3mm was tailored to almost measure.

My moneys on the 2mm RI. Fantastic suit and the best of the 3 OThree suits that I have owned.

After trying on the 5mm one I think that was one of my main concerns about the Ri2.1. I want a bit of future proofing in the suit too, so that is will be suitable for all types of diving from standard to tech.

Ive got a MTM RI and its supurb not a wet dive all season and it does'nt change boyancy with depth.

Lots of people i know dive with the o3 5mm and think they are great and perhaps a little warmer than my RI.

Great service though, but a pain in the ass to drove to Weymouth for a fitting and the final fit, but worth it for the final product.

Tell me about it. I'm just trying to decide when to go down there at the moment for a remeasure, they were a bit rushed at the show. Then like you said it the final fitting trip!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did look at outeredge as its closer but they don't particularly do fittings.

I think I'm edging towards the 2.1 but I don't want to end up with loads of underclothes on too.

Cheers all
