othree ri 2/100 for wreck diving

Hi all,

my old beloved Otter skin begin to show signs of expensive repairs (zip).
I was considering to buy a new drysuit. New crushed neoprene suits seems to be very comfortable, and I wanted to have your advice about the following questions:

-ri2/100 warmer than a shell?

-could be used with my big undersuits (otter 200g, dui 400g) or the cut is too stretch?

-heavy duty enough for wreck diving or does it need a lot more of care on the wreck? And for a heavy kitted dive (ccr with big bailout deep dive)

-where is the best place to have a good price?

-can't see on the website, any zip cover on the zip?

-I have heard that it could come with socks and rockboots in place of standard boots, true?

Thanks a lot

Regards

Johnny (Belgium)

Johnny,

Hi.

I would not use the O3 with a 400 gm undersuit....you might get away with a 200gm just about but really neo suits are mor suited to thermals (PBB or Xerotherms).

Most neo suits are more hardwearing than membrane for wreck diving. I've had a couple of buddies tear a membrane suit but never seen a buddy tear a neo suit.

A good price? The only place to buy an o3 is direct from the manufacturer!

So far I have not seen an O3 suit that doesn't have a zip cover.

You'll have to speak to O3 about rock boots and socks although I think you're right.

Good luck

I'd agree with Scuttler on this point.

Heh, heh, mine has survived my wriggling through wrecks with no problem - the Ri is a tough suit.

Talk direct to O'Three, if you telephone them they will give you all the help and advice you need.

You can have almost any option you want, though they tend to fit zip covers to medium weight zips and not to heavy weight zips.

I've got the neoprene socks and rock boots on my Ri.

They also will do you a front entry option if you really want it.

-ri2/100 warmer than a shell?

Of course - you've got 2.1mm of neoprene keeping you warm rather than trilam which offers little to no thermal protection. That said, bear in mind that neoprene does compress as you get deeper so the thermal properties of the suit will drop. When I owned an RI, I found that I was perfectly toasty in a Fourth Element Artic...

-could be used with my big undersuits (otter 200g, dui 400g) or the cut is too stretch?

A 400gm thinsulate would be overkill inside an RI. The 200gm suit might be quite nice, though... personally I still think that a Xerotherm Artic is the best undersuit to wear under an O'three

-heavy duty enough for wreck diving or does it need a lot more of care on the wreck? And for a heavy kitted dive (ccr with big bailout deep dive)

The RI suits are very roughty-toughty suits - I owned one for about three years and used to pull myself through all sorts of holes in wrecks and the suit never once had a puncture! I found it to be a very tough suit.

-where is the best place to have a good price?

Just go direct to O'three and deal with Shaun (the owner of O'three) - you might not get a discount but you'll get service that's second to none! Seriously - deal with O'three direct...

-can't see on the website, any zip cover on the zip?

It's an optional extra but I wouldn't bother with it because all you're doing is adding an extra layer of material across your back that will make the suit even less flexible than it already is! My RI didn't have a zip cover and the zip was absolutely fine. Can't see the point in them, personally - I think they're just a fad.

-I have heard that it could come with socks and rockboots in place of standard boots, true?

I believe O'three now offer this as an option.
