Question Apeks Valves

Ok, here is a question for all you wise wise members.

I am getting wet (very) from the left shoulder down to the wrist. Took time in getting the wrist seals fitted correctly and a very experienced diver also checked, everything looked fine. Neck seal also seemed ok.

Fully opened valve and then closed it off three or four clicks. Seemed to get wet immeadiatley on entry.

Also, quite large wet patch (not just damp) on chest.

When I took suit in to have it looked at, when the valve was unscrewed I didn't notice any Rubber Backing Patch. Now it may have been stuck to the valve itself or may not even have been there. There seemed to be a rubber eyelet in the suit itself, but my question is this.

Do you also need this rubber backing patch???

I'll go and have a look myself after receiving words of wisdom from the wise.

PS. Thanks to all those who posted on my previous dump problems, the gaffer tape has worked just fine, and I have seen bubbles from the dump on the way up.

No rubber backing patch on my valves, only the rubber eyelet glued onto the outside of the suit.... I am suffering a leak as well, so don't take this as being the norm... for all I know I may have the same problem as you!

If this is the Apeks low profile dump it seems to be a common complaint. A lot of people move over to the High profile Apeks and have no further problems.

Just a thought based on a lot of customer calls for high profile dumps

SWMBOs suit was leaking from the dump valve (low profile Apeks), ordered and fitted a rubber backing and she's been dry since*. I also used a small amount of silicone grease on the seals when re-fitting the valve.

Draw your own conclusions

*It's the inflator valve that's leaking now - but I think that was dirt in the hose - will find out for sure on Saturday.

Going to try the backing piece for a start and then will swap to high profile if still have the same problems. I will report back any progress as this may help you as well.

Thanks, as above. Can I order these through you? Also want a USB for a Suunto Vyper.

Yep, gonna give it a go. Nothing ventured and all that. I also appear to be leaking from the inflator valve so any reports back on that would be good.

Thanks everyone, was beginning to worry that I may have joined the no reply postings club!!

For valves etc, try SeaSkin direct - £24 ish for a high profile apex, and probably will have rubbers etc Apeks Drysuit Valves
Ring them, don't e-mail as Richard doesn't seem to pick them up very regularily.

Cheers

UPDATE :

Short dive (very short, more of a float really!) in Swanage. Had made sure all valves nice and tight, entered water, familiar feeling of damp chest and water running down my leg.

Now giving up with this suit, going to seaskin. Anyone have any comments on Neo to Mem?? Also any comments on neck seals? I have quite a thick neck and wondered if its this that contributes to the "roll"??

Over to good old ebay then with this one and the undersuit. Going made to measure fit and new so that I have some come back.

I must be in a minority that I actually prefer the low profile version. Not that I ever had a problem with the high profile but the low profile is so much easier to adjust.
