Which suit for the Red Sea in May?

I wonder if you can help......

I have read some of the threads regarding which suit for the Red Sea but I can't decide, please help as I'm tearing my hair out.

I have a 5mm Beaver wet suit which I've used in the Red Sea in Feb which was fine. I took this to the Maldives at Christmas and I was way too hot, ended up borrowing a 3mm shortie and thought it was fantastic. Suit was on and off in a jiffy and I was warm as toast. Here's the dilemma....

I'm off to the Red Sea end of May (Brothers etc) and I'm wondering will I be too hot in my 5mm or should I take a shortie? Does anyone know if the water temp in the Red Sea is similar to the temp of the water in the Maldives???

Thanks

Helen

you'd be fine in a full length 3mm and maybe ok in a shorty but Brothers have very strong currents and it can be quite rough out there too so a full length would offer some protection against the evil fire coral.

I'm not at all jelous by the way!!

You'll have a great time, what boat are you on?

Hi Helen
I don't think you'll be too hot in a 5mm suit but you might be cold in 3mm, I know I would, perhaps I just feel the cold more than others. Remember you can always unzip a 5mm if you get warm, if you're going to the Brothers it will obviously be on a liveaboard and I find I feel the cold more on liveaboards towards the end of the week.
Have a great trip, wish I was going.
Sleepy

No point in asking me ... I just got back from Dahab and got cold in a 5mm semidry after 20 mins!

Packing the dry suit as we speak!
