ROLOCKS

ND- rings are very large and the locking mechanism can be unreliable.

My Rolocks have been 100% reliable for the last 18 months. Expensive but the best in my opinion.

Was it you or someone else that posted an issue about ro-locks flooding on a dive? (cant remember who it was).

FWIW i cant see any fault with the ND lock - its a bayonet that clicks in nicely and doesnt move out of that.

dry gloves are a bit of a thing for me as i get VERY cold hands. i have been using bluepoint rings for a long time which are identical to the diving concepts system. the rings push together which isn't that easy to do by yourself. also, if you take the gloves on/off all the time, you ARE going to leak. i get over both problems by leaving the gloves on the suit. not perfect, but it works for me. the rings are also somewhat larger than ideal.

i asked hammond drysuits to attach the suit side ring directly to the suit, but it couldn't be done. next time round i'll be looking at zip gloves (no idea if these can be fitted to non-DUI suits) or a ring system that can be glued to the suit.

If not set up correctly then rolocks can unlock, set up correct they move with the sleeve of the suit and won't unlock even with the most extreme movement. Mine are now in perfect postion and I trust them to stay in one place for the duration of the dive.

The bayonet fitting on the early ND gloves was unreliable- see report below

"I was supplied with a pre-production sample and after around a dozen dives the O-ring sometimes wouldn't allow the gloves to connect properly. This meant that on one dive the gloves leaked. I carried out the afternoon dive using 5mm wet gloves and have to report that even when the dry gloves leaked, they were warmer than the wet gloves. The O-ring issue has been fixed on main production run. "

I have now seen ND gloves fail to securely lock on two occasions once in Scapa flow last year with an early set of ND gloves where the locking mechanism failed and a similar problem recently at the NDAC. So it would appear that the o-ring issue/locking mechanism is prone to problems.

The size of the rings is considerably larger than comparable gloves from Checkup, rolock, typhoon etc.

Ian

Looks like neither ND or rolocks are perfect then which is a shame.
Done roughly 40 dives with mine and had them on/off boat coxing more than that with no issues so im overdue a leak anyway.

Eat donuts and avoid dry gloves

IMVHO dry gloves are a waste of time ..... they are a pain to put on and prone to problems. Thick (5mm) 3 finger mitts with seals, a decent undersuit, a pre-dive donut (or two) and, if needed some KY (to get second mitt on) is a more pleasant, cheaper and more effective solution.

Just my tuppence.

Hugh

if it works for you, then that's great. an hour or more in water as warm as 10degrees and my fingers may as well not be there. it's dangerous. some of us need alternatives.

and yes, i have poseidon 3 finger mitts, they're good, but not good enough for me. i'll save them for when i move to NZ

I assume that Woz has forgotten his £1.29 dry glove experiment. I am going into Stoney soon and this thread has reminded me about the experiment - it can't be any colder than wet gloves.

How do you find signalling numbers (deco / depths etc) with only "3 fingers"? That's one thing that puts me off them...

well i have to say that i bought a set in march fitted then to the exact instructions and the forst day i tryed them was Mals DIR day st stoney never the less they leaked i spoke to ND they requested that i called in to the shop as its only 20 mins away from where i live they changed the wrist seals on my ND suit FOC and ive never had a problem since.

while i was in the shop they guy who origonally tested the system was in and he advised that if fitted to neoprene seals its best to tighten them regualr as the neoprene some times caused problems until it was fully compressed.
