Barracuda spotted off Guernsey

Saw this on another mailing list 'Glaucus':

Quote:
The Guernsey Press, Wednesday 8th September 2004, reports a sighting of a barracuda off Guernsey.

The report states that a diver saw what, following consultation with various reference books, he believes to be a barracuda.
The fish was observed in 12 to 14 foot of water in Grandes Rocques Bay and was approximately four foot long.
It states that the diver was within 10 feet of the fish and that he was able to study the fish for some time.

Angry

This good news - until some brain dead angler decides they want a trophy photograph.

Also I saw this morning that the humphead/napolean wrasse is on the endangered species lists - they fetch $100/Kg or something obscene in the far east. Such a beautiful animal but it won't get the press and the backing of a save the tiger campaign - something to do with a lack fur and eyelashes I think.

When will we learn..........?

Rant over - have a good one folks.

Beats me? When there are no fish left maybe?

Talking to the missus about this yesterday as Bren's post on Ben Bradshaw had stuck in my mind. Had Plaice for tea (OK OK shoot me already...)
There were 5 top fillets from 5 small fish pre-packed (Carrefour) for Euro 3.5

How can you explain this low cost unless the fishing industry is propped up by government?

Was the Barracuda a sign of warming waters? There was a trigger fish off Brighton a year or so back. If so is this a good or a bad thing?

There's a big debate to be had over the Gulf Stream here if anyone wants to start it.

Chris
