| Seahorses wild in British waters Artical from BBC Inside out Cameraman Colin Froud of Divercol Productions has become been the first person in the UK to film a British seahorse in the wild. The remarkable footage was gained during a dive off the South Coast and is proof these beautifully graceful and elusive creatures are found in our waters. Colin along with his footage was shown on BBC 1's Inside Out programme on Monday 6th September 2004 Anyone else seen (not captured on film, obviously) these beauties on their dives? NO SPECIFIC LOCATIONS need to be mentioned. It would be neat if these were successfully listed as a protected species. I know it is being sought. Very cool Stephen http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/south...eahorses.shtml |

| Apparently, seahorses have been spotted at two locations near me! Haven't seen them myself but am hoping to next week on a SeaSearch dive, and will let you all know if I do.

| Ah, that sounds a spot of good fortune then Ron, to see one in passing. I noticed they mentioned some concerns on the BBC write up about mentioning where exactly they were found as they wondered if they would get hunted out for that voodoo type medicine trade... not sure how true an issue it is, but best not to give exact locations out, just in case. There is a link site where sightings can be reported confidentially to keep a record. http://www.britishseahorsesurvey.org Maybe you'll notice them everywhere, Ron, now youve proved lucky on a just a shallow dive. Thanks for the link Bren.... interestingly enough, they mention that the seahorse male does officially get pregnant as the eggs are passed to him, then he fertilises them and carries the young from egg to live young birth...... and then goes off and gets preggers again! stephen |
