| I know this was a long time ago but I have just received this email We did it! After six months of campaigning from Bite-Back, ASDA has removed mako and big-eye thresher shark from 190 stores across the country – see www.bite-back.com. We wanted to let you know that the emails you sent to the supermarkets have been truly significant in helping us successfully negotiate with ASDA and Britain’s biggest fish retailer, Sainsbury’s. Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without your support. Within the last five weeks, we’ve proudly announced that 335 Sainsbury’s stores have stopped selling pre-packed marlin and that shelves in 251 stores have become swordfish-free. And, because you and hundreds of other Bite-Back supporters cared enough to send the campaign email, ASDA will no longer be selling 100,000 shark steaks a year – our biggest result to date. Plus, don’t forget, earlier this year 24 Wagamama noodle restaurants removed shark from its menu, because of Bite-Back intervention. It can be done … and we’re doing it! Everyone at Bite-Back is looking forward to your continued support and bringing you more positive news in the coming months. In the meantime, please keep visiting www.bite-back.com and tell your friends how you’ve helped us make waves in marine conservation. Thanks again. With best wishes Graham Buckingham Campaign director |

| FANTASTIC!!!! Makes me glad i replied to all those "thresher shark are not on the endangered species list..." emails i got back from ASDA! Two questions though... 1. Do I now need to start shopping at ASDA like I promised...!? 2. Can we now target the fisheries MP? Mr "when there's a problem due to there being no more porbeagle sharks" we'll maybe look into a forming a committee who can debate whether or not there is a problem or not.... :< |

| Asda ends shark sales By Charles Clover, Environment Editor (Filed: 09/11/2004) Asda has removed portions of shark from its 190 stores after a campaign by Bite-Back, an environmental organisation. Until last week, Asda was the last major supermarket chain to stock shark, selling 100,000 portions of mako and bigeye thresher shark each year. While neither is endangered, some 270,000 sharks are killed every day and conservationists say this could lead to the extinction of at least 20 species in a decade. Tanya Streeter, five times world free diving champion, and a spokesman for Bite-Back, said: "Today's news sends a clear signal that consumers believe sharks belong in the oceans and not on the dinner table."
