Cool Shark Vindaloo?!

April 03, 2005

TimesOnline - Shark threat

Rick Stein, the seafood chef, is being targeted by conservationists over his recipes that encourage people to eat shark meat, writes Jon Ungoed-Thomas. Pressure group Bite Back is urging Stein to stop promoting the fish as an exotic meal. The campaigners claim his “shark vindaloo” recipe is encouraging a boom in consumption of species that are endangered. Many supermarkets have stopped selling shark, but fish and chip shops serve it and it is widely available in fish markets.

Conservationists claim more than 100m are taken from the sea each year and many species are being killed faster than they can reproduce.

Graham Buckingham of Bite Back said: “More people are eating shark than ever before, but you can’t farm them and it’s difficult to reverse the damage that’s done by over-fishing.”

Stein was not available for comment. There are no shark dishes on offer at his restaurants.

I'm guessing that human vindaloo would be ok though!

P.S Can't move for sharks in Padstow, hundreds upon hundreds of kids are buying crab lines as we speak

Look Rick,

Don't go foisting your Jock proclivities on the rest of us, civilised, folk! You'll be suggesting 'dee-fried sporan' next, and that's only one step away from a demanded apology!

Wowww. Thats coming from the area where the Sunday afternoon practice of sucking the jelly out of pig's feet. And Sheep's brains on toast.

Think someone from Lancashire really needs to stop and think about civilized.

AND before any one says it Haggis was invented because a scot had too much rubbish in the bin bag and someone thought of selling the contents to English tourists.

And Yorkshire, well that is civilized, Yorkshire pudding and wensleydale cheese.

Regards

Gary

Ok so eating sharks is bad... to people who don't like eating sharks...Fine

I don't like eating cellery, brussel sprouts or custard but couldn't give a toss if you eat them or not..(different ballgame, same sport) and they can't, haven't and won't eat you, per chance!

I'm just getting a bit fed up with having it rammed down my throat everytime, someone, somewhere says something remotely related to eating, cooking or wearing sharks.

Shock Horror: Shark bites back when chef......
Shock Horror: Man viciously assaulted and beaten to a pulp by cellery...Hardly front page stuff!

Grief no. We have far to much is cumulative poisons to be fit for consumption. You should never eat any human being over the age of five and even then one raised outside Europe or North America is safer.

Anyone got any good Long Pig recipes?

I do believe there was a slight problem in Nigeria just after the last war. When tinned foods were distributed to the population they learnt to recognise the contents from the illustration on the label. This worked for just about everything aside from Corned Beef which had a nice line drawing of a cowboy.
