I am not aware why people are making so much fuss about Disney. Many restaurants are serving shark's fin, so why pick on Disney?" Cheung said it was unreasonable to expect the theme park to offer Chinese banquets without offering the dish. "Chinese tradition is that you put shark's fin on the table," he said. "If you don't, you are not respecting the guests you invite. It is a matter of face."
Given the growth in the Chinese economy the demand for this product looks set to increase dramatically. As with all commercial fisheries the future looks very bleak.

Isn't this the main problem - no one actually does know?

People have their beliefs, their interpretation of the available research data or facts (as they see them) etc BUT no one actually knows!

I would have thought that anything that bring sharks into the public eye in an informed manner is a good thing.

Bit like the victorians shooting all the game in Africa, now we shoot them with cameras and most people see the protection of Tiger/Lions etc as a good thing. Thats were we should be with sharks.

Sharks will eat fish anyway, so baiting them is not going to make much difference. I also doubt that it could be done enough for them to become dependent upon it for survival. They are too wild and the sea too big.

Life is not black and white, so sometimes lesser evils need to be endured by some to achive greater goods.

You cant eat without somthing dying first.

I voted no to this.

Just cos we dive in their waters, does not mean that it's our god given right to see them, if they happen to swim past then great. If not then a case of better luck next time.

We've just came back from the Maldives, and on the last dive of the Holiday, I was 25ft away from Grey Reefs, black tips and white tip sharks, all there in abundance, and no chumming had taken place. On Hubbies ( Paul Evans ) previous dive he was fortunate enough to be in the water with several Leopard Sharks.

You just have to be in the right place at the right time. IMHO

Then you will be disappointed to see this advertised 'Shark Trip' in the planned trips forum.
Thanks for voting.

Yes, I did notice this thread, but chose to stay out of it. Even though I don't agree with baiting, there are others who do, and whom I suppose are entitled to. By me having my say against baiting on a forum it's not going to stop it happening, it's just falling on deaf ears.

At the end of the day we all have our own beliefs on right and wrong.

True, but I can't help noticing that the people who think it's OK are partly the same people as think removing "shinies" from wrecks is OK. The reasoning seems to be it's OK because I want to do it, rather than being based on any particular beliefs as to what's right and wrong.

If I use the wierdos I'd have no-one left to talk to on here. Plus I'd have to jump in, and you know I'm scared of the water.
