What great work. Let's hope that the shark had enough energy supplies to recover and begin to feed again. I hope the net doesn't catch any more......I think i would have ensured it. If it was free-floating and lost then maybe it could have been collected in?

Nice to see a positive story concerning divers! All too often it's just the accidents that make the news...

Whilst there's no indication whether *this* net was abandoned or not, I really think the topic of abandoned nets needs to be addressed globally. Would it really be so hard to design a net that would collapse/bio-degrade harmlessly away should it ever be jettisoned by it's owner?

Maybe make it an offence to ditch a net at sea - but then nets would need to be uniquely identifiable in order to trace them back to the offending boat...

There must be an answer to this somewhere - the cost of not dealing with the issue is increasingly lifeless barren seas and the knock-on effects that will have for the rest of the environment.
