Two Die On First Day Of Mini-Lobster Season

MIAMI (AP) -- Authorities say the first day of Florida's annual two-day lobster mini-season ended with two deaths in the Keys.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports that Robert Moore died while scuba diving near Cudjoe Key. A Fort Myers man also died in a diving-related accident off Sugarloaf Key. That incident is still under investigation.

A scuba diver was taken to the hospital and is in fair condition after surfacing too quickly while diving off Pompano Beach.

Police say there hasn't been any major arrests. Last year, almost 2-thousand vessels and 8-thousand people were inspected during the mini-season and 213 citations were issued, mostly for
undersize lobsters.

The mini-season began at 12:01 a-m yesterday and ends at midnight tonight.
