| Found a common Puffer fish. We were diving down in Cornwall with Porth Kerris Divers at the weekend. We were on a club diving trip with Indepth Scuba Training (IDST) from Birmingham. As we were kitting up on the beach the Skipper found a unusually looking fish, definatley not from his next of the woods (or his part of the sea). It looked like a coral eater and a puffer fish, but it didnt look very well. They took it up to their dive centre and put it in a tank and e-mailed photos to the Plymouth Aquarium. They replied to inform us that it was a a common blue puffer fish. But they are found in North England and Scotland, not down in Cornwall. It was quite bizarre because our club had just come back from Scapa Flow and we joked that we had brought the fish down with us. The aquarium suggested to leave the fish in the tank over night then return it to the sea. It had net scares on it and it wasn't swimming very well. It stayed at the surface. They said its likely the swimming bladder had been damaged and the fish wouldn't survive. But It is exciting to be involved it finding different species where they are not meant to be. |
