| Greenpeace Dump Whale outside Japanese Embassy in Berlin In order to highlight the fact that whale cadavers are obtainable for scientific research without the need for hunting, as Japan claims is necessary, Greenpeace have dumped the body of a Fin Whale that was beached in the Baltic outside the Japanese Embassy in Berlin. BBC link to dead whale story This cadaver is pretty huge - 17m long and weighing 20 tonnes, so the one thing the Japanese staff will be unable to do is ignore it! Of course the action will not change their minds but it keeps the question of "scientific whaling" in the news, and chips away at the artificial arguments used to allow whale meat to stay in restaurants and cafes across Japan. Imagine if MacDonalds claimed they had to kill cows to study them......

| :note2 "Whale Meat Again, Don't know where, Don't know when..... " ![]() http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/4122800.stm Problem is that you're trying to stop something that is ingrained in their culture. However, if enough people stopped buying japanese products I'm sure they'd listen - especially as they're in dire financial trouble at the moment - they don't need any more international pressure. Don't get me wrong - I spent 6 months in Japan in 1990 and I think it's a very culturally different but fascinating place - but I disagree with whaling. There's no argument for it at all.

| HP? I thought Daddies was better. Anyway, I don't eat whales on moral grounds [1] Janos [1] - Apparently as I have a lot in common with them[2] [2] - When I wear my sleek grey wetsuit I often get confused with a Dwarf Minke whale. Fortunately only by other divers. An amourous whale is still yet to make that mistake.
