It's not only the Japanese

I was just wandering why in this world supposedly full of democracy these days, that none of the pro whaling governments appear to have asked thier own public what they think of whaling. Japan for example is trying to forcefully shove Whales down young peoples throats. I thought governmetns were "supposed" to do what is best for the country, and what the public (who they quickly seem to forget voted them into power in the first place) wants. not what they misguidedly think is best.

Whalers are bad, but they are only the instruments its the polititions that should be getting our abuse, And please dont think i believe whalers are innocent they are not but i presumer that some of them are only doing this to feed thier families.

Just wish we as the public and those of other countries had even the smalled amount of effect on how OUR countries are ran and not those polititions who want to leave thier names stamped in a big filthy way all over history.

There ya go rant over

It's all about money. The Japanese people really don't want whale meat anymore. It is all about getting back a return on their equipment. Whale boats / factory boats are expensive. You have to get back the money you invested + some profit. The Japanese whaling industry is stubborn as is the government sponsoring this "scientific hunt".

According to an article I read yesterday, the Japanese are confident of winning the vote at next month's meeting. If they don't, they threaten to leave the IWC, form a new one and take all the prowhaling nations with them. That would make the IWC a completely meaningless organisation.
