| Can anyone tell me what this brown thing is? I have seen it on a few dives, but can not work out what it is. I have seen it between 20-30m on wall dives. It seams to occur sparely throughout the dive, perhaps two or three on a 30 min dive. It is approx 6-10 cm tall. When prodded (gently) it is very firm and rigid. seen while diving in sound of mull, and north of skye. brown thing.jpg |

| Looks like a sponge you have there, Neil - they're not all soft and spongy! Sorry I can't give you a name except 'erect branching sponge'. To identify many sponges you need a sample, an expert and a microscope ... HTH Mike |
