| Iceland to Resume Commercial Whaling So, the rot starts. Iceland is going to resume commercial whaling, extending its whaling programme to include the fin whale (on the endangered Red list) in addition to the minke whales it already hunts under the "scientific" smokescreen. They are also suggesting that they will export whalemeat - against international law - possibly to Japan. Full story here The main issue is that they consider their hunting to be sustainable, but are acting unilaterally. If each country did this then, of course, you end up back in the same situation where the sum of all the individual "sustainable" catches is unsustainable. What is even sadder is that most of this is a political battle, not consumer demand.

| Dreadful news. There is all this pressure from the whaling countries like Iceland, Norway and Japan to resume commercial whaling when there seems to be little consumer demand for the product. In Japan, a large amount of the meat from the so-called 'scientific' whaling ends up as pet food. What a tragic waste. |

| Iceland not that big, so I would guess we could take them? I say send the troops in! |

| I know.. total downer.. I just don't understand why.. well on second thoughts we all know why.. money! I guess their very rarity makes whalemeat valuable. What a waste of a beautiful creature |

| It is beyond bad... but hardly a surprise... when did we ever consider long term consequenses over short term profits.???? A disgrace, looks more and more likely we will one day look back with regrets on whales that once was... and then what??
