Curious looking chap indeed. Wonder how he is coping with being so shallow?

I'd agree... it looks half-starved, its eyes are very dull, it looks as if it may have some parasites just in front of the gills, and maybe some fungal condition behind the gills...

It isn't too healthy. In fact, it's dead, unfortunately. It died shortly after being caught.

Poor sod. Fish that live in the deep, are they affected in anyway by low pressure if they swim up to the surface?

Does not look well at all.. cant be either way, surely something is wrong for it to come up that shallow..

But intersting all the same... a rare glimpse into a world very few of us will ever see..

Do the Japanese eat shark's fin soup? I thought only the (rich) Chinese did.

Deep sea life, I have heard have blue blood (copper based) rather than red blood (iron based). I think copper based blood is less efficient on carrying oxygen around the body, and had a thought that this might be a coping mechanism for higher ppo2's at depth. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this - any Marine Biologists out there?

But yes, I thought the poor thing had more than it's fair share of the ugly stick!
