Here's a couple of other links. My computer nearly had a blue screen of death when it went to the sun

It really is quite tragic.

When the wreck was initially beached, there was a big point made about them having set up a giant floating perimiter in case of a fuel leak. What happened to that?

It was removed because they feared it would be damaged during the stormy weather we were experiencing at the time.

Great. Better to save a big rubber ring from potential damage than the costline it was there to protect.

That may be a bit simplistic and maybe I expect too much from technology in the 21st century, but I'm amazed that with all the preparation time they had (it was days before it started leaking, right?), they have not managed to prevent this spillage, or stop it spreading.

Out of interest, do the ship owners/salvagers/insurance company get charged for the cleanup operation?

Sad but not a disaster. Some 4 years ago the coast near me was greatly affected by the Prestige disaster and that was a hell of a lot of damage. The sea life was affected but interestingly because there was a ban on fishing I saw more fishlife, in variety and size than any other time.

If there is a fish ban on Lyme Bay the sea lfe will improve. Hopefully the oil will be contained and damaged kept to the minimum.

As per usual in situations like this every one is busy focusing/doing the urgent stuff not the important stuff....then there suprised when they have a whole new lot of urgent stuff to do.

This is not to blame em as such its a typical human approach to situations. I had a conversation recently about this and 'The Incident Pit' and the way people appraoch stressful situations.

PS Sorry i know its slightly tangental but this was on my mind due to work and i just thought it was apt...ho hum
