Yay! Ticked them off on my list of "fish I want to see" the year before last. Feisty little buggers.

Shame Tesco seems to be going the wrong way :-

Trying not to be cynical here but it could be that ASDA customers are of a different social / economic profile to Tesco or other supermarket chains and ASDA just arent selling enough monkfish therefore the positive press generated when they put an eco spin on withdrawing the product from shelves is worth more to them than the sales.....

They were on offer here last week. Big pile of them about 200Kg.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

The last time I was in ADSA, there was 2 ladies of ill repute there trying (and failing) to shoplift a dress and a bottle of Thundebird. Classy

Sadly true, but at least it braught the issue to the attention of people like me.

PS Monk fish is cheeper than Cod. I know this because i was going to buy some yesterday at Tesco but i decided on Breem instead. I kind of wish i had baught the Monk fish now so I could have enjoyed my last one in blisfull ignorance.

I am on a fish and vegtables diet at the momnet.

Amazing! Here in Scandinavia (and also in France) monkfish is considered to be one of the best fishes for eating and is much more expensive than cod, haddock etc.

Fish to Avoid

See here: Fish to Avoid and Fish to Eat

Monkfish is OK if caught from a very specific part of the NE Atlantic - otherwise unsustainable.....
