What a shame that it is dead and not even good enough to eat. Why the hell didnt they just take pictures of it and then let it loose back into the sea?

Because it's only the second one that's ever been caught and it's in perfect condition, frozen down and taken back to NZ for study. All the other ones they've had have been dead & decomposed and with bits missing.

Yeah, what he said!!!

Bloody research! Why should we want to find out more knowledge about the world, understand the way that it and creatures in it work??? It's all that bloody Darwin's fault (Not YD member Charles Darwin (Or maybe it is?!?!?)) I personally think that we should all have been happy living in the trees... Ruining all those caves and creating fire and technology! What a stupid idea.

Don't even get me started on all those good ideas, life saving techniques and miracle breakthroughs that have come about because of scientific investigation!!!!

:P

We had a Giant Squid (different species) wash up on a beach near Hobart and it was put on display, on ice, for one day only. If you like the stench of Amminia, it would make good calamari. Otherwise...pppeugh.

Pretty scarey beast to see - huge - sort of thing that makes you think about hanging up your fins.
