Thumbs up Lake District Waters becoming warmer.

Hi Buds - The lakes are getting warmer. Just 6 years ago the average temp in January (the coldest period) was 5c, now its 7 to 8c. For June it should be between 7 and 8c but its actually at 12c right now. Thats a big change.

If you have dived the lake district between Jan 2005 and now - would you please check your logs and PM me with the following details: Date(s), Lake(s) Dived, the Site(s), depth reached and temperature details.

I'll be compiling this data into a spread sheet in order to create a more accurate and up-to-date charts for everyone on my Freshwaterdiver.com website which hopefully will be completed for Jan 2008.

What effect these higher temps may have on the aquatic ecology of the lakes - I hate to think.

Sincere thanks to all those who may wish to help.
Yours - Webmaster Paul

Paul,

I'll trawl through my logs and send you some data. Do you have a preferred format for the data or even a blank Spreadsheet to fill in?

Alistair

Alistair
I kept away from formats because I knew this would involve a lot of work for many of you - I did forget to mention "date" but have corrected that now.

So please just use your own format to make life easy for all concerned and I'll sort all the data out on my own end.

A Big thanks to all - in this 1st hour!

At least 1600 readings are required, so please help if you can

Dont know for sure but if its anything like Crummock at the moment, its going to be about 12degC from 0 - 20mtrs and then dropping to about 6/8degC there after. The thomocline is very noticable in Crummock at the 20mtr mark right now.

I thought Wastwater and Crummock practically had no life in them anyway, I've only ever seen a fish as big as a stickleback in Wastwater before, but I bet there's tons of bugs 'n' things!!
