I'll make my millions yet

That's part of the problem; the "local" urchin species are - I've actually tried some and it's not too bad, they are very similar to the UK Edible Sea Urchin and this solution has been considered but according to our Nipponese cousins, the Centrostephanus variety tastes like sh!t, so it's a none starter....

Actually, that's just adding insult to injury because the local export sea urchin industry, which is just getting started will be hit just as badly as the cray and abalone fishery.

surley even if it's not somthing he would not have normally eaten it's not an aditional meal (breakfast, lunch, scalops, dinner, supper) so another creature is living another day?

Where have all the Lobbys gone in Scapa Flow?

I love lobster! I love to eat them and I love to watch them under water.

However, I have noticed that the Lobbys in and around Scapa Flow have disappeared. In fact I did not see a single lobby in a whole week of diving.

Could this be due to all the divers or all the fishermen?

Well after recently diving St Abbs I noticed that Lobsters were everywhere. Lots of babies to. There is a volentary reserve there, but I noticed that the skippers do not allow divers to take sea life.

I believe that as dive sites become more popular, these popular dive sites can not sustain divers takeing lobsters, so now I leave them alone. Especially when they can take over 10 years to grow to a good size.

For me it comes down to that I enjoy seeing lobsters more than eating them.

On the other hand we dived the Kyarra last week which must be one of the most dived wrecks in the UK this side of the Stangarth and we saw 15? mayby 20 lobsters on it.

There are plenty of lobbies up here in Scapa Flow and are definately NOT fished out, I just think you have to know where to look for them, The Markgraf certainly has its share but I suppose most people do not spend much time at 42m looking for them.

Shall I apologise before I go out tonight?

Luckily it's only classed as comercial and not commercial, as they do like Scallops in the local Thai restaurant

Just keep me away from them, that's all I ask!

I've watched this thread with some interest (ignoring the petty politics and school playground bits) as I am in an odd position on this one.

I don't eat fish at all, primarily because of the damage that commercial fishing is doing.

I have been on a boat many times when people have brought stuff up, never had a problem with it, that then led me to wonder if I would bring up a lobbie or a crab for SWMBO as she is a real fan of fish.

The answer I came to is yes I would, okay maybe she wouldn't have eaten lobster that night if I hadn't, but there is probably a cow somewhere quite glad I did.

I would probably bring it up for myself as well if it wasn't for the secondary reason that I don't eat fish, can't stand em!

As a point to an earlier post, I have shot and then eaten deer/venision on an organised cull, I think anyone who wouldn't/couldn't do that is incredibly hypocritical eating meat products.

As always YMMV.

Danny
