That does look like it in the way it ivades inside but there is nothing visable on the outside.

I have a cousin who runs a fish dock so I am going to have a word with him see if he knows any thing or any one that has come accross this.

have you mentioned it to your cousin? this parasitic barnacle looks to be a nasty little bugger - might well be worth contacting defra as richard suggested...

Hi

Just to let you know I have talked to my cousin and he has not come across this so while I'm away he is going to talk to the lobster men and some others to see if thay know what this is.

I'll keep you posted. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has found this?

Hi.

Did you take them out of broken off/ lost lobster pots?, which often contain crunchie fish.
Trouble with them is they may have spent many weeks filter feeding anything that gets swept into the pots, causing the meat in them to be a funny color and a bit jelly like.

Best to cut open the pots so other coruscations don't get caught and just set any caught ones free so they can feed properly and get back to normal!.

But there again if the pot looks as though it hasn't been lost long, they will be OK to eat.

CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science) might be a better contact point than DEFRA. CEFAS are an agency of DEFRA and as far as i know, they look after everything fishy.

Kevin have already looked at this and there is nothing external on the ones I found. Regarding pots I dont take from pots full stop.

Will be chatting to cousin over weekend to see what hes come up with.
