Don't you start, it's bad enough that the people who will be in power here as of Saturday are talking about sending the Navy down, to do what (?) exactly. Especially if the Japs throw them the brown eye....what then? Open fire? Naval boarding party?

Anyway, it's the Antarctic, not Aus waters, so I don't think we'd have any right to do so anyway and legally, there is nothing to stop them.

That said, I watched a pair of humpbacks down here off Munro Bight last month, (possibly the same pair that Tassie Devil saw as it's only a short distance down the coast) and I find it incredible that they could do such a thing.

It's almost as if it's being done by accountants - the ones who know the price of everything but the value of nothing.

However, if you want someone to start a war over whales, with what is now, after the USA, the major maritime power in the Indo-Pacific, look for someone else.

As an aussie I would be thrilled if "Super Kev" seized the ships and sunk them.

If the French can do it in NZ then the Japanese can have it done to them in Antarctica!

That's right us Welsh are a minority too, leave us out of it, we don't want to be hunted.

For far less than 25mil you could buy the Nisshin Maru and sink it as a diving attraction.

Since there is virtually no money in whale meat these days, I think the last lot went for pet food, no bottom line concious Japanese businessman is going to build another factory ship so when it's gone it's gone.

Great news, well done Oz/Greenpeace. Shame they still plan to kill 1000 minke and fin whales though.
