Just had a look at the site. I would love to be one of the volunteers, but there is no way I could raise the 2400 USD in order to go and do it. There are so many opportunities do volunteer diving, yet they all cost an absolute fortune to do. Why isn't there anything you can volunteer for in diving without it costing a fortune ?
In part because (as we all know) dive kit costs a fair bit to buy and maintain and most of these projects do have their own kit, then there are staff costs on site and back in the office (although few people are paid much if anything on these projects), offices, research equipment, computers etc etc. I did one of these type of projects which cost me a fortune and I was horrified at the price when I signed up but once I got out on site I could see where the money went.

You could volunteer for SeaSearch in the UK?
