And this is Paradise !!!!

My fellow YD Members and guests,

The Maldives is supposed to be one of the most wonderful and excellent Diving places in the World, Manta's, Beautiful Corals, some Wrecks and of Course SHARKS....but for how long. I found this website today and was horrified at what i saw, THIS IS THE TOURIST TRADE !!!!

They seem to be Killing Sharks for there Fins, Skin and Teeth... Is this the way to make money for the Island and the Maldivian Goverment... I don't think so.

I have enjoyed over 50 dives in the Maldives and thrill at seeing sharks, rays and the wonderful coral.

Have a look and Post your messages... what do we do about this ?????

Numbers of sharks do appear to be going down in the Madives. As far as I know there is no outright ban on shark fishing in the Maldives. Only a ban on shark fishing in atolls where there is a resort and even this probably isn't policed particularly well.

Cheers, Ant
