The Oriskany took a long time to reef becuase they had to remove the wooden flight deck and all the tar that held it together (would have been a tad un-eco-friendly) then they had to tow it to a Texas to hide out a hurricane season two - in the end it took them a load more money than they thought it would - something like $12m...but then again would have cost $25m to scrap....with all the increase in tourism (fishing/diving) it has paid for itself several times over already.

...next one in Florida is the Gen. Hoyt Vandenberg - a missile tracking ship they are reefing in May (should cost about $3m to clean up and make "diver and eco friendly")

The US do have an advantage for reefing though - they have a huge ghost fleet just sittign there rusting...although still seems that the government "agencies" try and work against each other to hinder things when someone wants to reef one....
