Jellyfish in Sharm

Hi, Iam off to Sharm at the end of April mainly house reef diving. A friend of a friend has just come back and said they could not swim/snorkel in the sea due to the large ammount of jellyfish present. Has anyone had any past experience with them, are they the stinging type, is it likely to affect our diving or should we take hood and gloves. Any advice welcome, I have been to Sharm 3 times before but this was in Jan & Sep and we never came across any jellyfish

My mate just came back from Oman and said there was a plague of jellies there affcting the diving. Also HWMBO is in the Middle East and he says you could walk on the water and not get your feet wet because there are so many. What is going on?

Heya,

I was out there a week ago and there were loads of jelly fish but none of them stung, there were a few long chains of little creatures, like tiny jelly fish??? that did sting a bit but it made no impact on the diving

Cheers,
Pete

Sometimes we get loads of jelly fish into our lagoons in El Gouna. Not sure why or when. They are just round, about four inches across and no traily bits and slightly blue. They don't sting but when you are swimming in the lagoon in a bikini you feel them touch against your skin. The children collect them and pile them up in a big heap! Simon TW gets them washed up on his beach. I thought maybe it was when we get the rare wind from the East and that pushes them this way?

I think it a symptom of over fishing. We will see more of this. Not enough fish/turtles left to eat the blighters. The med is having similar problems .

Last week in Sharm/Sha'ab Abu Nuhas 24 in the water and between 24 and 31 aboard the boat. Loads of jellyfish but not that they prevented us diving in any way!
