| Thanks. Yes - seals (esp greys) make a wide range of vocalizations underwater. These can convey a variety of behaviours including communicating aggression and being used to attract mates. I have witnesed a mixture of sounds being generated by seals - the most impressive from a very large bull seal upright in the water making a deep base noise to attract a cow seal before in water mating - the noise was so loud and deep base that I could feel it in my chest and I was about 8m away. This is a female pup about 9 months old I think. She spent over an hour with me and at times made other vocalizations, some warning other seals off. A real priviledge to be in the company of these wild animals. Safe diving, Ben |
